Sophie and Russell are two Golden Retrievers who survived the trauma of a house fire and remain deeply bonded to one another. They rely on each other for comfort and security, making it essential that they stay together.
Because of what they have endured, Sophie and Russell have specific needs related to anxiety and safety. They are considered high flight risks, so a securely fenced yard is critical to keep them safe. Inside the home, they do best with free roam in a calm, familiar environment where they feel secure.
As a result of their trauma, Sophie and Russell have exhibited anxiety related behaviors, including chewing on doors or molding and attempting to escape when they feel overwhelmed. When unsupervised, secure caging or placement in a safe room is important to prevent injury and reduce stress.
With patience, understanding, and consistent care, Sophie and Russell continue to navigate the effects of their past together. They are currently not available for adoption, but if you would like to learn more about their story or support their ongoing care, please reach out.
Because of their trauma and ongoing needs, they are part of our Hospice and Haven program, where they can remain together in a stable, secure environment with continued support and monitoring.
You can sponsor Sophie and Russell with a onetime donation or a monthly donation to help with the cost of ongoing care or the collective care of all of our Hospice/Haven dogs by following this link. Donate - CrisisDogsNC
