Merrick is a handsome 1.5 year old 50 pound American Staffie x lab mix.

An absolutely dream of a dog who was rescued on his kill date, Merrick is super loving, calm, funny, affectionate and a hugger. He wants to be around his people, up close,  he prefers to be on your lap. His foster writes, '"Crate training is going well."  Merrick is housetrained." Merrick is mellow and doesn’t seem to need a yard to burn excess energy.  He enjoys daily walks and playing! Merrick is calm and gentle with the foster's 12 year old daughter and their two female dogs. He has observed cats in kennels at the pet store and showed no interest. This boy needs some leash training since he is a strong dog, despite being low key. His foster writes, "After about a week with us, Merrick has relaxed and no longer whines when we leave the room. He has become curious and more confident, exploring our home. He is a couch potato but he will occasionally join playing with our other two dogs. He likes to be close to you, jumping up for a hug, and likes to snuggle when possible. As such, it’s probably best to have him in a home with older kids who can handle a 50 pound dog when he stands up to hug you. Merrick is gentle but is unaware of his strength. During car rides, he is curious and wants to stick his head out the window and needs to be harnessed so he doesn’t go into the front seats, since he wants to be where you are. He will occasionally whine if the windows are closed." Merrick's ideal home would be one in which someone is mostly home. He seems to like the company of other dogs but would do well on his own too. He is calm and easy going, just likes to sit back and watch or nap. He is happy and content chewing on his chewy bones.
