Kingsley is part of our Hospice & Haven program due to significant behavioral and emotional trauma that makes traditional adoption unsafe and unfair for him. While we do not know the full extent of the abuse he endured, Kingsley was rescued from an abusive hoarding situation and carries deep fear and reactivity as a result.
Kingsley struggles with trust and is highly sensitive to change. Transitions, unfamiliar environments, and new people can be extremely distressing for him. Moving Kingsley to a new home would cause a severe setback in the progress he has made and would negatively impact his emotional well-being.
Kingsley is currently in a forever foster home with caregivers who are experienced in working with dogs who have trauma-related behaviors. They understand his triggers, respect his boundaries, and allow him to move at his own pace. In this stable and predictable environment, Kingsley is able to feel safe.
While Kingsley can eventually form strong bonds, it takes considerable time for him to trust. Once he does, he becomes deeply attached to his people. He does not enjoy being picked up and is not a lap dog or cuddler. For these reasons, a home with children is not appropriate, though calm teens and adults are manageable within his current setting.
Through our Hospice & Haven program, Kingsley is given what he needs most: stability, patience, and a home that understands him. He is safe, loved, and respected exactly as he is—and that is where he will remain.
