Gilbert is a ten pound, two-year-old, Pomeranian and Mini Border Collie mix. He's a sweet little guy who loves everyone he meets. He likes to snuggle and is a great playmate for other dogs. Gilbert is super friendly, good natured, and has medium energy with bursts of hyper behavior. The bouts of hyper behavior are due to the low dose Prednisolone that controls a treatable immune deficiency called pemphigus foliaceus. Vet evaluation: “The good news is that we can treat it and often with inexpensive medications (prednisolone) however about 50% of dogs will need additional medications to control symptoms and those can sometimes be a bit more expensive (although not excessively since he is a pretty small dog). Since he has already improved so much on a very small dose of prednisolone, we will taper down the dosage, I am hopeful that he will not be difficult to manage.” We can discuss on-going treatment. We don’t know about Gilbert with cats, but he is fine with mature kids ten and older who have experience with dogs. Gilbert will jump on them and gently nibble fingers to play. He is good on a leash and does not like the crate. If you are interested in Gilbert, please complete an application and we can discuss in depth with you his medical background. This is an adorable sweet little dog for an experienced household. Apply at crisisdogsnc.org. We reply only to completed applications, no calls, no emails. Excellent vet references and a virtual home visit required. Your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We transport by land or air whenever possible. Unless there is definitive documentation our breed assessments are based on visual appearances.
