Bruce

Sweet Bruce we believe is a mix of Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever, approximately five years old, and fifty pounds. This poor boy has had a heck of a life! Bruce was dumped several weeks ago. Since then, he's been shot at, clipped by a truck bumper and living in the woods. He's shown NO aggression to anyone. The only visible signs of injury since Bruce was clipped by the bumper of the truck is surface scratches. Bruce has no limping, but he doesn't lift his leg to urinate.  We aren't sure if this is connected.

Bruce eats fine and drinks fine, and he has not had any other signs of injury such as blood or vomiting. Bruce's finder worked with animal control for several weeks to catch Bruce, and he now trusts his finder. Bruce will even eat out of his finder's hand. For now, Bruce's finder has him housed in an outside dog pen and cannot keep Bruce. The finder will have no choice other to surrender Bruce to the Animal Shelter if rescue placement is not found. Bruce's finder says, “He will take a treat from my hand and then retreat. I can’t touch him. He needs time and patience. He has shown no signs of aggression at all just fear. "

Bruce is in need of a foster or adopter that can be patient with Bruce and build his trust up. We don't want to see Bruce in the shelter where he won't show well due to his fear and his fate will be sealed.  Apply at crisisdogsnc.org. We reply only to completed applications, no calls. Excellent vet references and a virtual home visit required. Your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We prefer a fenced yard, but this is not required for all of our dogs. We transport by land or air whenever possible.
